December 21 in History

Well things get completely sorted out for Vespasian on this date.  If you'll recall, yesterday he got into Rome and sorta took charge.  Well today, the Senate confirmed that he was in fact Emperor.  And that ended the whole issue, and put an end to a year of uncertainty.  Actually, there seemed to be one certainty:  If you were nominated for Emperor (or even confirmed as emperor) and your name wasn't Vespasian... well, you'd be wise to keep up with the premiums for life insurance.

In 1620, the tiny little ship that could runs smack into Plymouth Rock, and the folks aboard get off.  And realize that since it is in fact Plymouth Rock, they're in the right place to start a colony.  And they succeed, though it takes some work.

A couple other things happened on this date, but it's all either too depressing or too dull.  Sorry.
