On this date, somebody on the western coast of South America in 1520 sang "I saw 3 ships come sailing in, on November 28, the 28th, I saw three ships come sailing in, on November 28th in the morning" as a guy named Magellan (inventor of the GPS, though I could be wrong about that) burst out of a passage (or strait) between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The song didn't work too well until it was rewritten with "Christmas day" in place of the random date. As for the sailing part, well it turns out that when they looked at a map, the passage was clearly marked "Straits of Magellan", so I'm not sure why it took them so long to find a way through. At any rate, it's slightly better than fighting ones way around Cape Horn, even during the summer months. Which November is, if you recall your geography classes.
In England a mere 62 years later, a starry-eyed young couple makes the romantic gesture of paying 40 pounds to The Man, so that they can get married. And thus the days of Wine and Roses begin for Will Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway. Who coincidentally apparently just got engaged again this week. Or maybe it's a different Anne Hathaway. These actresses/playwrights are all the same.
Wow. Dull day, unless you're named Shakespeare or Magellan. Better luck tomorrow.
