We start with King Henry III of England. He preceded Henry VIII by V V (that's 5 V's for the uninitiated). He did some other stuff too. He took over on the death of his father John (known to some as "Lackland", and to others as "poopie head who tried to stab his brother in the back while his brother was off crusading").
More into the dashing type? Then how about Clark Gable? Yup. He died on this date, and not just on-screen.
If you're into the brilliant, Jewish type, then you'll be sad to know that in 2006 Milton Friedman died. He was a firm believer in reasonable economic policies, rooted in the real world. That concept led him to a Nobel Prize, among other honors. He's really popular with conservatives today, since he believed in small taxes and free enterprise. He also had a knack for explaining concepts in clear, easily understood ways. He famously said that the solution to our problems lies not in electing only the right people to office, but in creating an environment where the wrong people are forced to do the right thing. This quote gives a lot of hope to conservatives who see Mitt Romney as the likely nominee for next years election, since nobody seems that fond of the guy. On the other hand, the results of last year's election were pretty clear, and yet nobody in Washington feels obligated to do the right thing either. Clearly, this adage assumes smarter politicians than we have today.
And that's about it. Got to keep some exciting people in reserve for next year, right?
Oh, and did you notice that Burgess Meredith didn't get a Daily Double?
