Well, here's a fun one. First on the list, in 42 B.C., is Tiberius Julius Caesar Augustus, or Tiberius to his friends. As you hopefully guessed from the name, he was a Roman. And an emperor. His stepfather was Augustus, so he took over when Dad croaked. Oh, and he was also married to his stepsister Julia, which made it even better for him, inheritance-wise. He eventually retired from all activities, living on the Isle Of Capri, where reports say he was a very bad man, who enjoyed the young 'uns a bit too much, even by Roman standards.
Got your penguin suit on? You should, as today is the birthday also of Burgess Meredith, or "Pengie" as he was known in the old days of TV's Batman. Later, he was in some boxing movie- "Ricky" or something- managing a boxer nicknamed the "Italian Scallion" (Going from memory here). He died in that movie, and finally in real life. Did he hit the daily double? Stay tuned to the next post and find out!
Lisa Bonet was also born today, in 1967. Her career pretty much disappeared after she married Lenny Kravitz. Coincidence? You decide!
Another birthday today is Oksana Baiul, in 1977. Remember her? Thanks to her, we know a bit more of the truth about Nancy Kerrigan. When Baiul won the gold medal at the Olympics, beating Kerrigan like Tonya Harding's thugs, Oksana broke down in tears, as she was (as far as she knew) an orphan, and had been homeless for a while. While they waited for her to appear for the medal ceremony, Kerrigan made a couple snide comments about her, which were caught on the air. Turned out she really wasn't "America's Sweetheart" after all.
And with thanks that we discovered that piece of knowledge, we end today's version of birthdays. Hope you enjoyed it!
