Happy birthday for December 31

Its 1720, and as the old song says,The Young Pretender does arrive on the scene.

In 1738, Lord Cornwallis arrives. Not the one from last week, but the one we all know. He might be a bad guy in the US, but he had a pretty good run in India later.

Also born on this date in 1815, George Meade. He was the commander of The Army of The Potomac from 1863 to the end of the War. He won the Battle of Gettysburg right at the start of his tenure.

In 1880, it's time for George C. Marshall to appear, and he does- right on schedule. Which is. It unusual for him. He's responsible for the top rank in the US Army being called "General of The Army", as he supposedly said that he had no intention of being called "Field Marshal Marshall". If it ain't true, it ought to be.

Also born in 1937, Sir Anthony Hopkins. He likes fava beans, I guess.

In 1943, it's John Denver and Ben Kingsley. Not to the same parents though. Or in the same place.

1947 gave us Tim Matheson, who was awesome in The Quest and "Up the Creek", and Burton Cummings who was awesome in The Guess Who and as a solo act. He's one of my favorites.

1948 saw the birth of disco diva Donna Summer.

1958 gave us Bebe Neuwirth, who is hot and talented. She was Lilith in "Cheers".
