January 3 birthdays

First on our list is Cicero, born in 106 B.C.. He was a Roman, of course. He's best known for writing a lot of letters to his friend Atticus Finch (I might have my facts wrong there) and he also dabbled in politics. Very poorly. Apparently, he could never make up his mind, so he would, like another senator a couple millennia later, vote for something to show he favored it. Or be in favor of something before he opposed it. However, in the case of Cicero, he irked the wrong people and got wacked for it.

A big bunch of birthday wishes to Professor James Ronald Ruell Tolkien, born in 1892. Apparently he was a precocious. Hold blessed with an imagination and quite a talent for language. But then, you already knew that.

1926 gave is Sir George Martin. He dabbled a bit in music, working with some chaps from Liverpool back in the day. Until they got mad about all his "tricks" and decided they didn't need his help anymore. Nevertheless, he survived and they did okay for a while too.

In 1956 we got Mel Gibson. Remember when women all lusted after him, and men thought he was the coolest ever? Yeah, that went downhill.

In 1975, Danica McKellar was born. She's smart (like REAL smart), talented, and hot. And of course married.

Here's irony: on this date in 1981, Eli Manning was born. What's the irony? Remember when he won the Super Bowl thanks in part to a miraculous catch by a virtually unknown receiver? Well that receiver, David Tyree was born on this date in 1980. Manning is probably on track for the Manning Wing in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Tyree? He's on track to be the answer to a two thousand dollar question in Double Jeopardy.

And now you know the remains of the tale.
